"This is financial adviser Patrick Munro talking about how to get your economic stimulus check. In these recessionary times, the government is constantly coming up with ways to stimulate the economy and of course as a tax payer you can receive a check on whatever congress decides to send out. Most recently they have sent out checks for 600 dollars to individual tax payers and 1200 dollars to families. However in order to get your stimulus check, it's important that you file your income tax. Your income tax return is filed every year irregardless of whether you've made income or not. It should be continuous from the time you start filing taxes at your first job really till your grave. Many people did not receive their stimulus check in the last go around because they hadn't filed a tax return for several years. Even one year will require you not to receive a check. So the government all they need to do to get you your stimulus check is to make sure that you have filed a valid return for the past year's tax season.
