This is financial adviser, Patrick Munro, talking about how to get your first credit card. Normally, though, the way an individual would get a credit card is to first establish a banking relationship. And the best way to do that is to get a savings account and most preferentially a checking account to match that. Once you have those accounts, and you are maintaining the accounts on a regular basis, most checking accounts are also linked to debit cards. The debit cards have the Visa logo on them, or Master Card. And once those accounts are kept in good standing at the checking account level, you will normally receive and offer for a credit card about six months later in the mail. Be mindful of the credit card offer, make sure that the interest rate is something that you can afford. And then once you have the credit card, maintain it and manage it in an effective way. Always make the payment on time. Don't max out the credit card, and pretty soon you'll see other credit card offers coming in your system as well. You can grow your credit history by it. This is Patrick Munro talking about how to get your first credit card.
