If you're working and your hours get cutback at work of course you have less income coming into your household. Many times your expenses are the same or in fact will rise. So it's important to have an emergency fund, always remember that. But if you don't have as much of an emergency fund as you could possibly have, it's important to cutback on spending. You can't cut back on food and the basic necessities of life, so the first thing to go are luxury items. Going to movies, extraneous purchases, luxury items that you would buy. These are the first ones to really feel the pinch in an economy. You may park your car and take public transportation or ride a bicycle if that's the case. These are green solutions but they involve very little in the area of spending money. People get very creative when they have to cutback on spending in a recessionary economy.
