When Does a Kitten Stop Growing?

"Let's talk about when a cat stops growing. Generally as kittens, they grow pretty rapidly. And bone growth continues up until about 8 to 12 months of age. Now that is to say they fill out 8 to 12 months of age. Kittens need to be on a growth or kitten formula type of food, because it provides more calorie. It provides more fat for them to use as energy, and it allows them to grow at a normal rate. Bones stop growing in between that time. However, between 8 and 12 months of age, generally when adulthood starts to kick in. Now kittens, when they become adults, can actually start gaining weight and become fat. And so, you just have to be careful when your cat is reaching adulthood, 8 to 12 months of age, that they will start going on to a normal adult cat food. Talk to your veterinary clinic about that. They can guide you through it. But generally 8 to 12 months of age is where they stop growing."
