What Happens When a Cat is Neutered?

"Let's talk about what happens when a cat gets neutered. Male cats have external testicle right below the anus. So when they're neutered, talk with your veterinary clinic, they can guide you through this. Veterinary clinics can do this slightly different as far as pain medications are concerned, things like that. But generally pre-anesthetic blood work is done initially to make sure there is no underlying issues. Then if that's okay, the cat is anesthetized and given pain medication. And what happens is literally there is a tiny incision that's made over both testicles. The testicle is withdrawal and ligated about right here and then that testicle is removed. So this part is left back in the cat and in most situations, there is no sutures. Cats tend to reach back there and want to chew those out and it will heal just fine without any sutures back there. And most cats that are male and get neutered, generally take just a couple days to recover. The clinic should send you home with some pain medication for a few days to make sure that all that pain is going to be gone. And usually just within a couple days, they absolutely fine."
