There are many reasons why one would use gold, however nowadays because of the increased demand for cosmetics we see gold kind of decreasing in its trend so the question is what is gold good for? Gold is actually good because it is very strong. We find that out of all the different dental materials that we use today that gold remains to be the strongest metal that we know of and it is also the strongest material and we know that it is less likely to break or fracture or chip so it definitely gives strength to anything that we use in dentistry. It also provides a better fitting material. Most materials will not adapt very well to this tooth structure that we are trying to fix. We know that gold is still the best fitting material that there is in the market right now. Often times we refer to the gold standard and this is why because gold is the best material used. However, because it does not present cosmetically those patients stray away from using gold as a material. Dentists will still use it based on the circumstances of the patient and the conditions of the material but even though the gold is strong and provides a good fit we find that there is a decreasing trend for using gold.
