"How to get rid of a skunk smell. The easiest and quickest way to get rid of a skunk smell is of course to wash everything as quickly as possible. It includes the dog, yourself, clothing, whatever has been affected by the skunk's spray. The longer it sets in, the harder it is to get out so the sooner you can get washing the better. As far as it comes to your dog and any clothing and things like that, there's a couple different home remedies you can try that work fairly well. There is a, you can use a homemade mixture of white vinegar, I believe it's one liter of white vinegar to a fourth a cup of baking soda and then a teaspoon of dish detergent. You mix all that together you can use that to wash the dog as well as any clothing that's been affected or yourself as well and that will help counteract the oils in the skunk spray. You can also in a pinch use a three percent hydrogen peroxide rather than the white vinegar, though be aware the hydrogen peroxide can bleach. So be careful when using that with clothing and on furniture and things like that. Baring that, in a pinch, if there's a store open and you can get to a store, there are lots of commercial skunk removers that work very, very well. In my opinion, the Nature's Miracle brand in particular works extremely well removing the skunk odors and those work on an enzyme based level to get real deep down in there, they break apart the skunk's spray. Some people will tell you this, the old wives tale, the tomato juice, the acid counteracting with the skunk's spray, doesn't work so well. Most people I've known who've tried using the tomato juice pretty much told me that it's worthless and doesn't really end up doing all that much. So really in the end, clean yourself and the dog as fast as possible and get a commercial skunk off remover if you can, if not, use the vinegar or the hydrogen peroxide mixture, they both work very, very well I've had lots of people have great success with them."
