"Good afternoon my name is Tom Brintzenhofe certified master mechanic from Redding, Pennsylvania, and today we're going to talk about how to make your car's engine last longer. The biggest thing you can do when you buy your vehicle, especially if it's new, is to go buy your breaking in period, your first five, six hundred miles you really want to take it easy on your vehicle. They have step by step in your owner's manual on how to do this. The process usually is, don't drive it over fifty five miles an hour, don't give it hard acceleration, take it nice and easy, basically baby your vehicle for the first six hundred miles, and that dies wonders for the initial wear on your engine. The second biggest thing is you can do for your engine, is when you start it up first thing in the morning, where it's cold, don't jump in your vehicle, start it up, and back it out of the driveway. Let it warm up, get the operating temperature, about one hundred and ninety five, two hundred degrees, and then start driving it. The second thing, the third thing you can do, is engine additives. After you get through with the initial breaking period of five, six hundred miles, they make products out there, slick fifty, pro long, there's tons of them out there. I prefer pro long myself. But that goes letting your engine oil. You do that every time you change your oil. It can sometimes get a little expensive, but if you think about it the overall cost involved in saving your engine versus replacing it, an extra fifteen, twenty dollars every time you change your oil, every other time you change your oil is a lot better than four, five thousand dollars changing your motor. But the biggest thing is saving your engine is make sure you change your oil when you're supposed to, make sure you're not abusing the motor, flooring it, driving it ninety miles an hour constantly. Just take it easy on your engine. Don't, stay away from abuse, change your oil regularly, and that's about all you need to do to pro long the life of your engine."
