"Good afternoon my name is Tom Brintzenhofe, Certified Master Mechanic from Redding, Pennsylvania and today I am going to talk to you briefly about how a remote car starter works. Now there is just a little electronics involved. It is really nothing fancy, nothing high tech but it usually involves a little computer and a little remote, a little key fob or whatever you want to call it. What it does is it is wired underneath your dash in between your starter wire coming through your ignition switch down to your starter and when you hit this button to start it sends a signal down your starter and up your ECM to allow it to start but when it gets that signal after hitting your two buttons here it allows the starter to run for five to six minutes, maybe ten minutes tops and then it goes and shuts down unless you put the key in it but it is a real simple package and any of your local automotive stores can put them in for you but like I said it is real simple. It is just a little box wired into your ignition circuit and controlled by this little key fob and a computer on the inside and that is how a remote car starter works."
