When considering how to select a Rottweiler you want to first take into consideration this is a very large breed of dog. Over 80 pounds, over 100 pounds is not atypical of the breed so take that into consideration. This is a strong personality dog usually good at protection and guarding so you'll need to take that into consideration as well as many of these dogs are not good with strangers. But friendly and affectionate certainly. Its a good idea always when you're considering a breed of dog you're not familiar with not to choose simply on how they look or what you've heard about them but to talk to people who have experience with an enjoy the breed. Also do some research. There's a lot of information on line and in books about individual breeds. And I strongly recommend that you do research before you purchase a dog. When you're purchasing any dog its a good idea to work with a reputable breeder. Somebody who, preferably a small scale and is breeding not just for look but also for temperament and health of the dog and has a lot of experience doing that. So you would be paying additional money for the expertise. Another consideration is working with a reputable rescue.
