"If you're considering how to select a Golden Retriever this is a good opportunity to take in mind the individual dog, and the general characteristics of the breed. In general, Golden Retrievers are pretty easy going, friendly, affectionate, seem to do well with children and other pets. Lexie here is a wonderful example of that. It is a time to consider getting a dog, if you're after a puppy, from a reputable breeder because they are such beautiful dogs. Sometimes they're bred for beauty simply, and not for a solid temperament and a healthy physique, so make sure you get a dog from a reputable breeder who's breeding for the whole dog and not just the look. Another consideration with Golden Retrievers is adopting a dog from a rescue. There are quite a few reputable Golden Retriever rescues out there, and there are a lot of great adult dogs looking for homes. Golden Retrievers need a good bit of exercise. Maybe not as much as a Labrador. Remember, that they're a sporting dog, so sporting dogs you need to make sure you're doing something to occupy their mind. But, in general this is, you want to also consider is this a good breed for you now and going forward. This could be quite a commitment for you for quite a while, and you want to make sure that you're prepared to offer that dog a perfect life for their lifetime."
