"Let's talk about types of exotic pets. There are multiple types of exotic pets that are available for purchase, not all legal in any state. So check with your legal aspects first obviously. Second thing is to always research exotic pets before you get one. Talk to your veterinary clinic or your pet store that sells them before you get an exotic pet. They all demand different housing, different types of diet and things of that nature. The third thing would be, well, what types are there. There are small mammals like rodents, like the chinchilla, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, gerbils. There are other small mammals such as ferrets and rabbits are a popular one as well. Also on the reptile side, in some states, turtles, tortoises, snakes and lizards are very common as well, and of course the birds. There are multiple different types of birds, everything from parakeets to parrots that can be kept as pets. Now also remember with exotic species, there are a lot of them that can live a very long time, especially parrots and macaws and larger birds. We're talking sometimes a decade after decade that these guys can live. So you have to look in the future with all these exotic patients to know, am I capable to take care of them in the future. You can ask your veterinary clinic or veterinarian if they treat exotic pets, and also your pet store to guide you through this. But always make sure that you're prepared to house them correctly and give them the appropriate diet that they need for longevity."
