"Let's talk about how to care for exotic pets. The first thing that you need to know about exotic pets is always do research first before you get one or purchase one. They all have unique needs, both dietary and housing, and it can be quite troublesome sometimes to set them up appropriately and they can have issues related to improper nutrition and improper housing. There are multiple different types of exotic pets, from small mammals like chinchillas, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, things of that nature, reptiles such as turtles, lizards and snakes and birds. And so there are many different types. Check with your veterinary clinic. Also not all veterinary clinics will see exotic patients, but if they do they can help guide you as far as if one is appropriate for you. A lot of these animals, especially some reptiles can live quite some time in captivity and so you have to be prepared down the road. Second thing you can do is also research by books or on line about these species or talk to your pet store that sells them. always do that first. Never buy and exotic pet on impulse because they do require a lot of attention. Also make sure that you're doing the correct housing and a correct diet. Diet is a crucial role with a lot of exotic patients because each species can demand a different type of diet and different type of housing."
