"What is the process for buying land? Well the process for buying land is not that much different than the process for buying a house as far as the ins and outs are concerned with the closing, with having your attorney do a lot of the title search and that kind of thing for you. It does differ quite a bit in actually finding a piece of property. Buying a piece of land can be a little tricky partly because there is nothing on it to begin with so you are just kind of out there looking at land and you really want to be very careful with how you go through that process. This is the most important thing I would say for buying a piece of land is thinking about what you want to do with that piece of land. Do you want to build a house on it? Do you want to use it for recreation? What do you really want to do with it? If you do want to build a house on it make sure that this is in a place that you really like, that it has a good view, walk the land a lot, go to the land as much as possible and spent as much time on it as there is possible and think about where you want your house situated and that kind of thing. When you actually go to purchase, I'm sorry when you actually go to purchase the piece of property, the land you will have an inspection period just like you would with any other house, any other piece of property so during that inspection process, get the land surveyed. Go ahead and pay for a survey of the land, know exactly where the land is and know exactly where the land starts and the land finishes. Talk to the town clerk in the area that you are looking at and make sure you can build on it and make sure you can do with it whatever you want to do with the land and that would be the most important thing to do when buying a piece of land."
