You have decided to open a business and you are concerned about this word- discrimination. You're hearing you can get in all kinds of trouble, lose your business and go bankrupt from a lawsuit against you for discrimination so, you're really concerned about what is discrimination. Hello, I'm Robert Todd and I'm here to answer the question what is discrimination. Well, we all discriminate whenever we make a decision and we choose between one item and another item or one person and another person. And for the most part this is permissible. However, when you are an employer and you unfairly use one's race, religion, ethnicity, cultural creed, sex or age you may be violating a law that specifically prohibits such discrimination. So, you may want to look at title seven of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. And look at the laws in the state in which you will be conducting your business and the laws and the municipalities and counties in which you will be conducting your business to see what laws prohibiting discrimination in employment they have enacted. And if you're still not sure you may want to consult a labor lawyer who specializes in employment discrimination to make sure that you don't run afoul of any such law. I'm Robert Todd, and thank you for watching.
