You're starting a business and you are concerned about violating some type of law. You've heard there's sex discrimination and there's gender discrimination and so forth and so on and you're really not sure what is meant by gender discrimination. Hello I'm Robert Todd and I'm here to answer the question, "What is gender discrimination"? Well gender discrimination in its simplest term or sex discrimination is unfairly taking a person's gender or sex and making a decision on that basis alone. And perhaps the best way to explain this is to give an example. One way would be to provide male employees, all male employees with benefits for their wives because they're male employees and it's assumed culturally that they're the head of the household. While at the same time, denying female employees benefits to their husbands because it's assumed again culturally that all males are head of their households. This would be prohibited, gender discrimination. Another consideration would be giving the tough jobs to the men because culturally women are less tough and giving the sensitive jobs to the women because all men are insensitive and this would be prohibited, gender discrimination in employment.
