"I'm Mike Quinn. Been an entomologist for twenty years. And we're here at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, talking about how to feed a praying mantis. They are predators and they feed on other insects and they generally in the wild, they'll generally stake out a flower and then feed on insects that come in. If you have a praying mantis in an indoor situation, you can put it in a small container and active prey items, like crickets that jump around will get the praying mantis' attention. And they can actually, if it's a female and she's making a egg case, she can eat over a dozen crickets in a day. But you don't need near that many for a normal part of the life cycle. But putting her in with a small, in a small container where she can find, he or she can find the prey helps her. And so those are some of the tips on how to feed praying mantises."
