"I'm Mike Quinn and I have been an entomologist for 20 years and we are here at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center here in Austin, Texas talking about praying mantis' diet. Praying mantis' feed on a wide variety of insects. They are generalists and typically they will hang out at flowers and feed on just about any insect that comes in and they are generally thought of as being beneficial insects but because they don't specialize in feeding on pest species they can actually eat other beneficial insects so it is generally thought that their role in th environment can't generally be characterized as either good or bad. In captivity they can feed on a dozen or more crickets in a day so they are very voracious and they will again feed on a wide variety of insects is what praying mantis' feed on."
