Accessing the Internet Via Satellite

"In this segment we're going to explore accessing the Internet through a satellite connection. Among the many ways of accessing the Internet, satellite is used primarily by people that live in remote areas. They don't have access to cable modems service or DSL service or POP Point of Presence to dial in because they live in really far remote location like maybe in the mountains or in the desert or in the middle of Montana for example and the only way they can access the Internet is via satellite. So how you access the Internet through a satellite connection you need to sign up with a service provider that sells satellite equipment. They'll come out to your place and install satellite dish on your house or wherever you live. And then what happens is they run a cable inside the house, typically it's a category 5 cable, looks like this and this will connect to your computer and then you will be able to access the Internet through the satellite connection on your computer. There's a wireless option and it involves installing a card like this in your PC and then you access the satellite dish which is mounted outside your house or structure through the wireless connection through the antenna. Now one thing you have to remember is that download speeds when you get information off the Internet and bring it to your computer, with satellite it's quite fast, but upload speeds are very slow so if you're going to be sending files away from your computer to a different computer for example, then satellite connection is probably not for you because it would be very cumbersome because again, the speed is very slow for uploading."
