"I'm going to demonstrate to you basic movement and footwork on the court of badminton starting from the ready position. As you can see from me moving the court one does not run, but one slides on the court. It is very rare that I put one foot in front of the other. I actually slide around the court. You can also see that every movement starts from the ready position with a small hop, which actually points your foot in the direction where you're going. For example, if I'm going to the net on the right side I will shift my legs with my racquet foot pointing in that direction, and then from thereon slide to that direction, and then come back on the the same foot leading. If I'm going to the right far back side of the court, same thing. I take an initial hop from the ready position, and then from there on shuffle back until I reach the position where I want to strike, and then do my shot. And then, in this case my racquet leg is passed in front of me, and then from there on I shuffle back to the ready position."
