Video Transcript

"Levi Parmly was the first dentist from New Orlean to invent dental floss. He started recommending it to people at a very early age. In 1815 he started using silk as a form of dental floss. But still, it wasn't able to be released to consumers until Johnson & Johnson, in 1888, got the patent for dental floss which we now use today. Johnson & Johnson has many forms of dental floss; thin with wax, woven with fluoride. All the kinds of dental floss that we use today was created by this gentleman, Mr. Parmly, in 1815 just by using silk. Now, it's made of nylon which is a man-made fiber."
