Works of art at Buda Castle. There are many priceless works of art in Budapest's Buda Castle. The Matthais Fountain, for one. It's a spectacular fountain that decorates the western forecourt of the palace. Fountain was made by sculptor Alajos Strobl. It's probably the most photographed work of art at the Castle. The equestrian statue, Prince Eugene of Savoy, is standing on the Danube terrace, high above Budapest. The neo-baroque statue was made by sculptor Jozsef Rona in 1900. The statue was only supposed to be at Buda Castle for a short time until a different sculpture was completed, but it's remained here ever since. There are two pairs of lions guarding the monumental gate leading into Lions Court; those four statues were created in 1901. One lion was broken into pieces during World War One, but it was reconstructed back in the 1950s. And lastly, the bronze statues of War and Peace are standing on the sides of the entrance to the Budapest History Museum. They were done by Hungarian artist Karoly Senyey.
