"Budapest's most famous green spot is Margareth Island located in the middle of the Danube River. Originally there were three islands here. The islands of Spa, Pictor and Rabbits but river regulation efforts in the 1800s forced a common concrete shore forming Margareth Island. Different residents occupied the island over the years. Monks of the Middle Ages preferred the island for its calm and kings liked it for the hunting. The island's name after Margareth, daughter of King Bella the IV. He renounced the world and entered the island's commons after surviving the rampage of the Tators after the 13th Century. The Turkish occupation the the 15th Century was followed by centuries of neglect until the late 1800s. The Margareth bridge embranchment opened the island up to pedestrians in 1900. It was followed by a park and entertainment center for the public. Today the island's linked to the mainland by two bridges; the Margareth Bridge to the south and the Arpod Bridge to the north."
