"Spontaneity is the spice of life. How do you tell your girlfriend you love her? This is Dr. Paul, author of Boomer Girls, a boomer woman's guide to men and dating, and host of Ask Dr. Paul. Interesting question. How to tell your girlfriend you love her? Be spontaneous, and by that I mean, do it in a way that is actually the culmination of where you had been before. Just to blurt it out, can be worthwhile, if it's a very good location, if the time is right. You can be on a subway, and look her in the eyes, and say, I love you. Do you know that? I love you. Guess what? She's going to respond. Before that, there may be some other interesting things you can do. Probably a step close to that, is to tell her when you talk to her on the phone, You know, I miss you. She's going to understand what that means. She's understanding that this is the next lead up question, or statement to having you say, I love you, and when you do that, she may be expecting it, and she wants to expect it, and she may be disappointed, if you use the I miss you, and not follow up later with I love you. Don't go there, because you're going to run into a perfect storm. This is Dr. Paul. May your fantasies of today, be your realities of tomorrow."
