"Steven King's book, "Misery," is not the way to get a guy. Well, how do you get a guy and keep him? This is Dr. Paul, author of Boomer Girls, a boomer woman's guide to men and dating, and host of Ask Dr.Paul. I would not suggest that being the technique to use, to get a guy and keep him. I mean, it was effective, but not very happy. The key way in which to keep a man, is to keep a man's interest, and how do you keep a man's interest? You make him feel good about himself, and how do you do that? He's proud to be with you. He's happy to be with you. Give an indication of how you know this. If this man is with his friends, and introduces you as his girlfriend, his fianc?e, his wife. He's feeling really good about himself, because you're with him. If he sits you in a corner, and he ignores you, and talks to his friends. If he's amazed that you're around, when you obviously are, then he's not feeling good about himself with you, and he may not feel good about you. You may be tolerated, not actively enjoyed, and I know that you won't like that, so, to kind of reverse that a little bit. If you find yourself sitting in a corner, or worse yet, you've been married to this guy for ten years, and his friends don't know, or even his acquaintances don't really know that you're his wife. Time to check out what's going on, and believe me, it happens. I've had calls from women on my show, with those very things happening. I'm not saying it's all their fault, but if you want to keep him, and I mean really keep him, then make him feel good about himself. It may be an exercise in futility, I understand that, but psychologically, that's the best way ,so you've got an 80/20 case, where that will work. Eighty percentile that it will, twenty percentile that it won't. You've got to go with the odds. This is Dr. Paul. May your fantasies of today, be your realities of tomorrow."
