"Hi, my name is Pat Goodwin with patgoodwinassociates.com and today we're going to talk about how to dress your best on the job and think about that. As you go to work everyday, people watch you work. So how you dress each day is appropriate to the environment and the culture of that office. If we were looking at a lawyer office, many many people wear a suit with long sleeved shirts and the professionals in that office, the lawyers are going to dress at that level of professionalism. The legal staff, the secretary, the receptionist, are all going to dress extremely professionally. There are companies that have a mandate for hosiery that women wear hosiery in their office. And then we move into different offices because our culture has gotten quite casual that we find that working in an office could be much more casual, but yet again, you are the message. So as you want to, demonstrate or set an example about your level of expertise and your professionalism you might select to wear dress shirts that are a little less casual but still casual. Dress slacks but yet not suit slacks. Polished shoes. If you're a woman, you want to make sure that you wear dresses that are extremely professional. I would be very concerned and certainly conscientious about dresses that show cleavage or dresses that are too short. You can accessorize to make things beautiful. So how to dress to work could be that you are on a limited budget, but yet you could accessorize a modest priced outfit with different accessories and mix and match. Men are I think easier to dress in a way because they can be a little bit more casual and wear Dockers or wear shoes, tennis shoes and get by with wearing maybe a little bit more casual outfit. Women are always scrutinized because even in an office of casual, people are watching. You want to make sure that you are protecting yourself and not sending out messages that are sending out vibes that are not professional and so in this world of work, it is important that you dress professionally. Understand what the culture is about. Make sure that you wear outfits are your work that is appropriate for your culture. If you're in a manufacturing environment, you're wearing jeans, you're wearing shirts, you may have to wear safety glasses, toe in shoes, so you can make the business decision about what's best for you. Use common sense and try to make an example or set and example because people watch you work and they also watch what you wear and you are the message. And that's how I would recommend that you dress for work."
