How to do a Full Sinus Flush

Video Preview

Summary: Do you have recurring sinus headaches. Or, maybe an allergy earache? Sinus flushes go back in history as an effective way to deal with sinus problems. Using a saline solution, you can clean out the allergens causing the problem. I started doing the flush because I had an earache that lasted for several months. The doctor said there was nothing wrong. That was a waste of money. So, I did a sinus flush, and have felt much better ever since.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    water bottle
    water bottle

To make your saline solution, you will need 1 cup of warm water, and 1/16-1/8 teaspoon salt. Mix these together and pour in your bottle. I used a bottle from the hospital. The bottle needs to be squeezable, and able to fully cover one nostril. 1 cup of water is about 7oz. If your bottle is marked, you can mix the solution directly in it.

  2. Step 2
    Nostril Flush

You will start over a sink. With the bottle standing upright, insert into one nostril and gently squeeze the bottle until the water comes out the other nostril. You can use a hand towel or tissue paper to blow your nose until empty. Repeat this step until the nothing but water comes out.

  3. Step 3

I have found that the best way to make sure that you have gotten everything out, is to jump up and down for a minute or two. The physical exercise will increase blood flow, causing the sinuses to open. And, the jumping motion will jarr any excess mucus down the sinus pathways. You will be able to feel it going down the back of the throat.

  4. Step 4
    Upper Sinus Flush

The next step is to clear your upper sinuses. Lay down on a bed with your head off the end and tilted to one side. You will want your towel and tissues close by. Slowly fill the nostril on the side of your head tilt. Wait a minute or two, if you can, to let the solution drain into your sinuses. Then, you can get up and blow it all out. You can use the towel if the tissues don't feel absorbant enough. Some of the solution will run down the back of your throat, as well. After you have gotten all the mucas out that you can, do the jumping method to clean it out further. You then repeat this entire step on the other side.

  5. Step 5
    Lower Sinus and Ears Flush
    Lower Sinus and Ears Flush

This step is for cleaning out the ear sinuses. Do not do this step unless you are 100% positive that your earache is caused by allergies, and not an infection. Also, do not do this step unless you have completely cleaned out your other sinuses with other steps. If not done correctly, this could cause an ear infection to occur. If you choose to do this ear cleanse, you do it at your own risk.

This step is performed on the bed as well. But, this time you will not hang your head off the edge. Tilt your head and pour the solution into one nostril, allowing it to sit for a minute or two, if possible. Then sit up and blow everything out. Be really gentle when blowing so as to not blow the mucas and water back up. Then finish with the jumping method. Repeat on the other side. Repeat the jumping method again, about five minutes after you have completed all the steps.
