Step 1
Let It Be
In order to be less stressed it is important to accept what is happening. To wish that things were different only makes stress more powerful. Accept what is going on and focus on what you can do in the moment. Be in the now. Be in the moment. -
Step 2
Breathe
Most of us do not breathe deeply under ordinary situations. When stressful situations arise our breathing becomes more shallow, when it actually needs to stay nice and full. Take a moment when you are stressed, focus on your breathing. Are you breathing deeply? If you are not breathing deeply, start doing so. Take longer slower breaths. Pause in between inhale and exhale. -
Step 3
Make the journey the destination
We live in a very goal driven society. We focus so much on the end results we loose our self in the process. I say focus on the journey on what you are doing in every step. The Tao chapter 64 says, The journey of a thousand miles begins with a singles step". Basically, all we can focus on is one step at a time. -
Step 4
Laugh often
The more you laugh the better you feel. Laughter can be healing to the body. There are many stories of people who were diagnosed with a terminal illness but healed themselves with laughter. So, if your job is very stressful or you had a stressful day find a reason to laugh. Read a funny book. Watch a funny show. Rent a comedy. Listen to your favorite comedian. -
Step 5
Find a physical or spiritual way to release stress
Your physical body or spiritual beliefs can be the key to unlocking your body' s natural stress reducing chemicals: endorphins. Prayer, meditation, yoga, tai chi and exercise can all reduce stress levels in the human body. Make at least one of these part of your early morning routine. It can really set the tone for your day.
