Deal with the Emotions of Closet Organization

"Hello, I'm Melissa Schenk and on behalf of Expert Village we are going to be looking at learning how to organize your closet. In this clip let's talk about what to do with emotional hang-ups. By that I mean it's just like anything. You know, you might hear a song on a radio and it might remind you of something, the same goes with your closet actually. If you see a piece of clothing it might take you back to a nostalgic day or a memory and, so what to do with emotional hang-ups. When you’re going through your closet and you come across something you know you’re really never going to wear again, but do you keep it? What do you do? So a couple of questions to ask yourself. Are you keeping it for sentimental reasons? Now of course, if it is a wedding dress, you can get a wedding box, to put your dress in your box. Perhaps you can sell it if you want to. You've got, I'm sure wonderful pictures of it. Just some ideas, it's entirely up to you of course of what you want to do with it. But are you keeping these things for sentimental reasons. Do you still have your prom dress from grade twelve that you've still got in the closet and this was thirty years ago. So sentimental reasons, do you need it or could you just have a picture of it and just enjoy the pictures of the actual event itself versus the dress, taking up real estate in you closet. So some sentimental reasons. Also does it cost too much to part with? You may have just worn that leather jacket or those leather pants, but they cost you three, four hundred dollars, just too costly to part with. So different things to think about when you're sort of going through those emotional hang-ups, but whatever you do, never put anything back in the closet that has a tear or rip, something that needs repairs. Repair it before you put it back into the closet. "
