Summary: How to finish the frame for a shadow box picture frame; learn all this and more in this free online arts and crafts video from a woodworking expert.
"Hi, this is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip we will be finishing our frame. Now that we have achieved our desired color choice and we have allowed that stain to dry overnight, we are ready to apply our finish. The finish that I will be using is a satin finish, it's not as shiny as some of the other finishes. The reason why I chose this finish was because the table that I'm trying to match has the same finish. Now when you apply the finish you want to have a little bit of a thicker coat for your first one. You want to make nice consistent strokes and have consistent coverage. Now, we're going to be doing 3 coats of finish. We're going to do our first coat which is what we're doing right now. Once its dried for 24 hours we are going to steel wool our entire project and then use a tack cloth to get any debris off of it and then we're going to put our second coat on. After that second coat we're going to wait 24 hours, steel wool it again, tack cloth it again and put our third coat on it again. Once that third coat of finish has set for 24 hours our project is finished."
