"On behalf of Expert Village I'm Nicole and I'm here to tell you about Iguanas. The grooming of an Iguana is an important part of having a Iguana as an indoor pet. Now as you can see I got many scratches down here on my hand where this Iguana has damaged me with his nails. It takes two people and good lighting to trim an Iguanas nails. One person needs to hold the Iguana like this around right behind the four legs here and also right in front of these hind legs here. That way the Iguana is fully stable and it's also a good idea to have it's tail stabilized either against your body or on a tabletop. The other person would be trimming the nails now the person who is trimming the nails should have the Iguanas belly facing them. So if the person trimming the nails was standing right here in front of me I would turn the Iguana sideways such as this. You also want to hold the Iguanas nail up to the light look through the nail trying to see if you can see through it at all with the light. Cause you can most likely be able to see where the blood vessels are where you can damage the Iguana if you put those to close. Even if an Iguana has a really long nails you don't want to trim to much off of the nail. If the Iguana has an extremely you want to do is trim a little bit off of the ends, wait a week and then trim them again until they are to the length you desire. Trimming the Iguanas nails can cause damage to the blood vessel and that can cause infection which can cause swollen he toe. Iguanas also need baths regularly and their bodies require them to be able to soak in order to remove the shed skin effectively. Once a week or so more often is better I stick my Iguana in the bath tube with some lukewarm water and sometimes I use a product called Shetties. Which you can find at your local pet store, shed relief there are several different things that will help. You can put into water to help the animal shed this is very important for these Iguanas to shed properly cause if their skin retained on the Iguana it can cause infection. Which could also provide a big place for parasites such as mites and ticks to hide."
