Picture framing is an ancient art that dates back centuries to the famed picture framing cultures of central Eurasia who started this noble and useful craft when a villager wrapped some tree bark around the edges of his goat skin and charcoal drawing of a bear trampling a small bald woman. From its humble beginnings, picture framing has become a worldwide phenomenon, and now hundred upon thousands of humans everywhere keep their art in beveled pieces of wood or metal called "frames".

"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Debbie Reeves at John's Design center. I'm here to tell you about custom picture framing. What is important about custom framing is that you are framing a picture that it might be a very inexpensive piece or a very very expensive. You want it to last a lifetime. Like this picture this was only about a $5 picture and 19 years ago we had a framing contest in the state of Arizona and the moment I have got this picture in the mail, I knew exactly what I needed to do with it. Exactly! This picture has lasted for 19 years. It looks exactly like it did the day that I made it and the day that I won the award. What we did on this is used Belgium linen and this becomes an air loom so I can pass on to my son, to his children."
