So, you're on a hike, and all of a sudden, you have that moment when you realize you don't know where you are and you're looking around. You say, "Oh, no. I'm lost." So, the first thing you have to do in this situation is assess just how badly lost you are. So, how do you assess this? Well, first, you want to figure out how long you've been lost for approximately. When was the last time you knew where you were? You also want to know how far you are from where you originally started your hike, so how far you are from the base of the mountain. And, you want to know how far away you are from civilization in general. So, you know once you start to find your way back, you have a sense of what direction to go in. The next thing you have to do after you've figured out how badly lost you are is to figure out what resources you have on. We're talking about the basic things you need in order to survive like food and water and clothing and things for shelter like a tent. This also includes things that you're going to need to get out of wherever you are, so items like a cell phone or a map. Things like these are really important because they can aid you in getting out of where you are and finding your way back home. Another thing you're going to hope to have are matches because that way you can start a fire. Hopefully, before you left for your hike, you planned to take lots of resources with you. So, this won't be too much of a problem. But, regardless you have to take stock of what you have so you can figure out just how you're going to get back home. Once you've taken stock of your situation, you can start to make a plan for getting home."
