Compost Leaves & Grass

"Hi. This is Yolanda Vanveen on behalf of Expert Village. In this series, we are talking all about composting and how to start your own compost heap. So, we've decided there are lots of materials we can use in our compost that are around our house everyday; and one of those is grass clippings and leaves. We always have lots of leaves in the fall at our house. So, instead of putting them in bags and sending them off to the landfill, I'm going to use them as compost and start some new flower beds. So, there's lots of ways you can pick up your grass and leaf clippings. You can use the old fashioned rake method or you can use a power blower for your leaves and I love to do that. Pretty much, all that I do is pick up my grass clippings and my leaves periodically (once a week or so in the fall and in the spring and winter, hardly ever) and then I pack them in a wheel barrow and pack them back to the backyard where I have my compost heap. Grass clippings and leaves can be used for compost, but there's a lot of items in your refrigerator and in your kitchen that can also be used as compost. Let's go inside next and check it out."
