"Hi! This is Yolanda Vanveen on behalf of Expert Village. In this series, we're talking about starting compost and how to create a compost heap. We've learned that compost is really an important part of our garden and that it's a natural occurring product. We don't need to go out and buy it. We can produce it ourselves. That's why it's so important to compost. 20% of our land field are filled with grass clippings, leaves, and all kinds of natural debris. That's fine. If you have a corner of your yard and you have room to put in compost heap, why not compost yourself. It's really easy. When you compost yourself, you're only putting natural ingredients back into your yard. When you buy compost or get compost from other sources, you don't really know where it's coming from. There could be lots of pesticides and herbicides on the compost and in the grass clippings. When you garden naturally using no chemicals at all, you can create compost that's truly organic. When you use your grass clippings, you don't have to use chemicals in your lawn. All you need to put is some compost down and a bunch of grass seed down every spring and fall to fill in your empty spots, and you can create your own gorgeous lawn without any chemicals. Instead of treating the problems, we are creating a beautiful garden. In the next segment, we're going to continue with our compost discussion and talk about the basis of compost, and that is compost from trees."
