"Michael Lewis with Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village, we're going to talk to you today about speed drills. Besides the jab, a back fist is usually used as a very quick technique, especially off the front hand. So instead of throwing it straight, you're coming from the side and that way you're able to distract or actually if you do land it, you're able to follow through with another technique. So again, using the band, keep in mind you're going to keep it short and already tight when you get ready. Exactly wherever you place your hands while you're sparring you want to already have it tightened up a little bit. So when you execute that back fist, you're pulling up against it and so that you'll be working the muscles that actually execute the back fist. Again keep in mind that you're only working one side of it, so you're actually just stretching it out, working that side of the muscles but the recoil is already taken care of for you. So, the way that you're going to work your recoil is by just turning around and now you have it straight out, exactly in the executed back fist position, and now you've got to learn to pull it back. It's pretty much like doing a curl except you're just pulling it back to your hand position. Same exact thing, when you?re actually working a jab and you have to pull it back, pretty much the same concept. You're just going from back this position back. So again, you're going to work the back fist, remember always keep the line tight, throw your back fist and then you can turn around to work your recoil off the back fist."
