"Michael Lewis with Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village, we're going to talk today about speed drills. Here's an exercise to help build up your reflexes and also strengthen the muscles that you use, in specifically, for jabs and reverse punches. You're going to get yourself a bungee cord, specifically it has a handle on it, you can find it at any sporting goods store and you can use it with a partner or you can sort of strap it around your back and shorten it up so that you have some resistance or if you have the possibility you can stick it up into a door and close the door onto it so that you'll be able to train that way. But right now I have a partner with me and what you're going to do is you set yourself up, make sure you already have resistance at the very beginning where your hand is. You're going to already have it, the line sort of tight here, and then you're going to throw your punch and that way you're working the muscles to resist and of course the farther you step away the more the resistance you're going to have and you're going to have to work your speed. Now keep in mind it is going to snap your punch back for you so you are only worrying about one aspect of speed. You're worrying about executing the punch and not the recoil. So from there you just work your speed and pull back. Now, to work on your recoil, you're going to have your punch out and you're already going to have the line tight and so what you have to do now is work on pulling it back and so that way you're working on both, both areas or both sides of the punch. So from there you'll be able to exercise executing and pulling it back and you'll definitely notice the difference the more and more that you train. Also keep in mind, is that you have different thicknesses of the band. So if you want to actually increase your training a little bit more, you get a tighter, thicker band and that way you will be able to definitely see the improvements."
