"Michael Lewis with Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village, we're going to talk today about speed drills. Now not only do you want to develop speed with your hands, you also want to develop it with your feet, so we're going to work on a few foot drills that is going to actually help develop the speed. Now keep in mind, is that the same with your punches, a jab is quicker than a reverse punch. So a kick off the front leg is going to be quicker than a kick off the rear leg. So he gets his hands ready. Again either six to twelve inches apart and I get ready to kick and as I kick he's got to try to grab my foot. Now this is much much much harder because you're bringing your leg up and he's expecting it and it has a farther distance to go. So I kick and then try to bring it down as quickly as possible. Keep in mind that you're far enough away from the person so that you don't accidentally kick them because they definitely wouldn't want to train with you afterwards. So you get your leg ready, you can start out if you want by chambering up your leg it also works your balance and so this way, you fire out a kick and as he tries to grab it. So he?s going to try to grab my foot, from here, I'm chambered up, I'm trying not to telegraph anything, fire it out and he catches it. So that means I need to work more on speed. Now, for using the reverse leg, he's going to keep his hands farther apart because really the back leg is not mainly used for speed as it is power. So here I'm set up, I'm getting ready, now if he, if I begin to shift a little bit, he's going to see that so then I have to work again on telegraphing. So I'm here, I'm ready to go throw my kick and he missed, okay, but I still need to work on speed because I was very very close. The other way to do it is if you have your foot extended out, this way it's going to help work the muscles in your leg and then he's going to have to try to catch the leg. So this is going to work on your recoil. So he has his hands apart, I get my foot up and as soon as I get it up, I'm going to snap it back so he does not catch it. I pull it up and pull it back just like that. As I begin to see him move, I'm going to have to learn to snap my foot back. That way the recoil is going to help you follow through with a technique."
