"Michael Lewis with Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village, we're going to talk today about speed drills. Now we are going to talk about two drills that's going to help with your reaction time, your recoil, and just your overall ability to not telegraph your technique. So starting out, your partner is going to hold their hands apart, anywhere between six and twelve inches. The farther apart the easier it is, the closer it is, the harder it's going to make it. So you have to sort of gage your abilities. So first off, I'm going to throw a punch, pulling it in and pushing it out. Make sure that your of course far enough away so that you're not actually punching them, but their goal is to be able to catch your punch or at least touch your hands if they don't catch it and so that way from here, he's going to be staring, and waiting, and expecting a punch, so I have to work on not telegraphing my punch to him. So I'm standing here as I get ready for it, he's looking for my stance, and whether or not I'm going to move, firing a punch and pull it back as quickly as possible and so that way it helps him telegraph. Now the other tech, the other way of using this drill in order to help with recoil, because not only is the punch just as important but pulling it back is just as important, if not more important, because it sets you up for the next technique. So from here I keep my hand out and what I have to do is pull my hand back before he can touch my hand. So I pull it back as he closes. So we try it again, pull it back. He still caught my hand, so what you do is that if you get to a point where your hand is constantly being caught, you just sort of open it up a little bit and gage to see how far apart you are and where you are and you can use that twelve to six inches as a gage of how your improving. So as the two ways, you should be able to throw a punch and pull it back without telegraphing that punch to him and also you work on your recoil by trying to snap it back. That is two ways that it's going to definitely definitely help your speed."
