How to Use Shavings in a Horse Stall

"I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you some tips and techniques that I use to basic horse care. So after you have your horse's stall adequately clean and free of any manure or urine, you want to make sure you are bedding your horse down with something/either a saw dust shaving such as this or s straw bedding. I prefer saw dust shaving from straw. It just keeps your stall a little bit dryer and it is just a little bit easier to clean. The straw does not have a lot of absorption so by bedding it down, if you could see in here, she has quiet a bit of fresh saw dust in there. You really don't want your horse's stall to look really black or really muddy looking. If it does look that way, you probably want to put some more in there for your horse. You need a lot in there especially to keep your horses feet nice and dry, to make sure you are not getting a lot of manure and a lot of urine packed up to their feet. So your horses stall should always look fresh it should not look black, it should not look muddy. You can achieve that by making sure everyday you are replacing any shading that you take out that are soiled. So making sure that you are bedding your horse down with an adequate amount of saw dust or another type of bedding, it is really important to overall horse health. "
