How to Wet Down a Horse

"I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village. I'm going to show you tips and techniques I use when bathing my horse. So now that we've curried and we've brushed her and we've loosened up any dirt and sweat and mud that be crusted deeper down into her fur, we're preparing to start to give her a bath. So the first thing we're going to do is get her wet. We're going to take our hose, turn it on. We're going to turn it so it has just a gentle shower spray on it. You don't want anything too hard that might scare your horse or be uncomfortable. So we're going to start at the legs. Just get the horse really nice and used to the water and then we'll move up the area. It's a little chilly so that's why she's dancing around a little bit. We're going to just get her nice and wet, get her prepared to shampoo. So just be careful when spraying their hind end that they don't turn into you or try to kick at the water, because sometimes it can startle them a little bit. So just make sure you're staying off to the side, not directly behind the horse and that you're just keeping on your toes in case anything might startle them or they might decide all of a sudden that they don't like the water and they might want to kick at you. Especially when you're going to do the tail, you want to make sure that you're standing off to the side while you get their tail nice and wet so you don't do anything that'll startle them and cause them to kick out. I'll move around here and do the other side. Just do the same thing. We're just going to start at the leg, get her used to the water. Now we're just going to get her wet. So that's how you want to wet your horse before you shampoo. "
