"Hi. This is Yolanda Vanveen on behalf of Expert Village. In this series we are learning all about house plants, and in this segment, we are going to talk about how to prevent messes with your house plants. When we bring home plants from the store, they usually come in a container that has holes in the bottom. So, if I would set that right on a windowsill, or right on my furniture or a bookcase and I watered it, the water would just come out and it would ruin my wood. An easy way to water is to water your house plants in the sink or just throw them in the shower. In that way, you can sprinkle the leaves and the foliage with water as well (which the plants really enjoy), and the water can seep out into the sink or into the drain and it won't get anywhere in your house. I just leave the house plant in the sink or tub for an hour or two until it kind of dries out a bit and then all you have to do is sit it on a saucer or those plant covers or you can use a plate or a plastic rim or even Tupperware; pretty much anything to make a barrier in between your plant and the windowsill or the wood or the floor or wherever your plant is going to be located. Watch our next segment on how to grow trees as house plants."
