"Hi, I'm Mike Lais. On behalf of Expert Village we are going to go over some guitar tuning techniques. The open G tuning is one that people may find to be a little bit out there but it can be very resourceful and it can kind of open up a few doors for you. Keith Richards really uses it quite a bit in some of his Rolling Stones stuff and a lot of slide players like to play it as well. But basically the way you?re going to get an open G tuning is we're going to go from lowest to highest. We're going to have our sixth string being this string the sixth string, be a D which is now an E. The fifth string will be a G which is an A. The fourth string which is a D will stay the same as well as will the third string continue to be a G and we'll leave the second string at a B as it is and we're going to take the top string and drop that down to a D which is now at an E. So what we're going to want to do is we're going to drop our bottom string first as we always have, take that down to a D again always going below it and coming back. You can check that once more with placing your finger on the seventh fret and matching that with the open fifth string. So now we're going to want to drop the fifth down a whole step. So, to find that is very simple. We just go to the fifth fret of the sixth string now and just match the fifth string to that. So we're going to want to go down below it and we're going to come back up, just like that. So now that is a G and a D. So we have D, G, D, G, B and then we're just going to want to drop the top string down to a D. You can get that by playing your D string already which is going to be your fourth string and matching the tone of that. You're going to want to go below it and then come back up. So now we should have an open G tuning."
