"Hi, this is Tom. This is for Expertvillage.com, and we're talking about shortcuts to playing the electric guitar. With that lead pattern you know what to do with your right hand. I've showed you the box pattern here for this pentatonic scale. What I want to do is show you four techniques over the next couple of sessions that you can use to add to this. The first one is called sliding up. It's pretty simple, but it just adds a little to your lead. So, for instance right now I'm playing. What I might do is slide into that first note, so I'm going to go down two frets. I'm in the key of A, because that's where my bar is, that's the root, but I might start here and slide that note. So I'm picking it down there, and just try that a few times so that you get a good sound at the start and the end of that slide. And then I just continue on my pattern. And you can do it at either end. Actually, if I wanted to slide at this end, you could just slide two up. So practice the slide. That's one of the tricks you can add to your lead."
