"Hi this is Tom and this is for expertvillage.com. We're talking about shortcuts to playing the electric guitar. We've covered four barre chords and you're probably surprised to know that that's all you need to play any rock and roll song you've ever heard on the radio. Sad but true, most musicians are not rocket scientists, so you figured it had to be pretty easy. Now that you know the four chords. The next thing you want to do is practice them and transition from chord to chord. So, we've got the E minor barre. We've got the A barre. Sorry, that's E major. So, the E barre. We've got this A barre. We've got this A minor barre and we've got the E minor barre. So, what you want to do is just practice going in combinations between them. So, I'll go from my E to and A and them maybe I'll shift positions. And that's just a pattern where I'm doing my two major barre chords. And I just keep practicing them until I can easily shift between the frets. And I'll change the speed a bit. Just get really comfortable. You want to get it to a point where you don't even have to think about what your hands are doing. And try it in different positions. Here I'm going back and forth. You can try going between the other two. The minor ones. So, this is the same idea with my E minor barre to my A minor barre and then speeding it up until I'm comfortable going between these. And then you can try throwing around different positions. Different chords. So, maybe you go from your A to your E barre, to a minor. And all I'm doing is combining three now. So, the A to E, up to the E minor barre and then down to the E again. And then try changing in the speeds. And then just keep playing those four chords in different combinations. Take out a pencil. Write down different sequences on a piece of paper and practice them in every combination you can think of."
