"My name is Brent Shelly with Expert Village and we are talking about lighting design today. The biggest thing when approaching residential space is to think of the space in terms of layers. You don't want to come into a space and just put one light in the middle of the room to light the whole room. Because what that is going to do number one, give you a very boring room. Also, you are going to have to crank that light up so bright to see what you are doing to become very glarey. We want to avoid glare. So what we do is have different layers of lighting in that space. One layer would be a general lighting layer which would be a soft defused light. For instance for table lamps or possibly recessed cans or down lights in the space. The next layer would be a task layer. Try to identify what the important tasks are. "
