"Hello my name's Melissa Schenk and on behalf of Expert Village, today we're going to teach you how to paint a room with stripes. In this clip it's time now to do some math. Math might not be for everyone but in this case we need to do and work with some numbers. So what you first need to think about, you can see behind me we have started to stripe the walls, but we'll get to that in later clips I need to first teach you how to get to that point by doing the math. Stripes are usually anywhere from between four to ten inches wide. Some people go twelve inches, it's entirely up to you but standard, normally, four to ten inches seems to be the norm. So, let's for instance say that you chose six or eight inches, we'll say six inches. What you could do, a couple of different options, is get yourself a piece of paper and start writing all of the numbers out that correspond with the number six for instance the next in sequence would be twelve, after that would be eighteen, then twenty-four. You want to keep increasing your denominations in increments of six because if you're either using a level or a measuring tape what you need to do is start on one end of your wall and you're going to start to measure out. Now you can do that like six, twelve, eighteen, twenty-four, or if you don't like that and you want to use a little ruler even, what you need to do, a couple of different things, the first to remember and to start of with is to, you're probably going to need to get on a ladder and go to the top part of your wall, use a pencil, don't put any really heavy marks on your wall. You just want a little hash mark so that later when you are using either your level or your laser level, you're going to be able to go back and make your measurement. So in this case, what we've done here is we have used an eight inch. I opted for this room to go eight inches apart. So what I did was, we put on the wall eight inches, marked it, then moved it out another eight inches. Again, if you're using a tape measure, you can go eight, sixteen and so on and so forth. So the first thing you need to do is get your ladder, get a pencil, your ruler, measuring tape or level, mark the numbers on the wall and figure out how many inches apart you want those stripes to be. That is the first part of this. You got to get those done and I'll see you in the next clip."
