"Hello, my name is Melissa Schenk and on behalf of ExpertVillage, today I'm going to teach you how to paint a room with stripes. In this clip let's talk about taping your walls and prepping the room, and also applying our first coat of paint. So, what we need to first do is, of course, is we've cleaned the walls we have prepped them, but now we have to prep them with tape. So we have to tape anything, for example like the window in behind, me so that we can use that to do our cut-ins, of course. Then what we want to do after we've taped the entire room, any windows, any electrical outlets, the baseboards, you have taped all of that, it's time to put on our first coat of paint. So what is import about paining stripes is this, very important: between the two colors, your first coat of paint is going to be your lightest color. Depending on the contrast it's going to be either the lightest color of the two or the flattest of the finishes, so you might want to jot that down: the lightest of the color or the flattest of the finishes. So, in our next clip when you see this room, I will have applied my first coat of paint and it will be the lightest of the colors. All right, so we will see you when this room is slightly transformed in a brand new color in the next clip."
