"Hello my name is Melissa Shank and on behalf of Expert Village, today I am going to teach you how to paint a room with stripes. In this clip let's talk now about some of the supplies that you are going to need to paint those stripes on your wall. Now some of this stuff is quite obvious obviously. You are going to need your paint tray, your paint ruler, tape, we will get into tape for a moment, but first assess your walls. If you have any dents, or any scratches, or pieces missing out of the wall then you are going to want to definitely use the dry wall compound to fix that. You are going to want to put that on first and use your spatula, put that on, allow it to dry. Then of course, if you have never done this before, you are going to have excess compound on the wall so you are going to need to sand it, get anything off there. You are going to need to vacuum it, clean it, and then you are going to have to put a primer on it. So first assess that and then of course basic materials will be your paint ruler, your paint tray, a drop cloth. It is very important to have a drop cloth, any rags. At any paint store you can always usually buy a box of rags. It is always good to have those on hand. Of course gloves if you don't want to get paint on your hands. I am not one that likes to do that. So we have got gloves here and gloves right there. We have got all kinds of paint supplies but the most important supply that I can think of, a couple of important ones for painting stripes. You are going to need your pencil of course or chalk to put on the walls but you need a level. It is very important to have a level. If you can, get a laser level. We will get into this in future clips too. A laser level is very important because it will give you a straight line and also your level will as well. You are going to need a measuring tape to measure. We will get into the math in a couple of later clips on how to actually measure this off. But let's talk now first about the painter's tape. There is a lot of different types of tape out there. Behind me here you see this green tape on the wall and this is one I like to use for my prime coat. It is a little bit stronger, a little bit more durable, but you need to get for painting stripes, this one is called Safe-Release painter's tape and it is for freshly painted surfaces. It is not quite as sticky or as strong so we are going to be able to put this on our first coat of paint, on our base coat to be able to paint on the stripes. Usually it is blue and you can even see on the box here, they have got someone who was actually painting stripes but this is very very important because you do not want to put tape on the wall that you just painted and have that paint come off so if there is any material that you really, really, really do need, of course, you know how to paint I am sure and what you need for painting, your paint and your roller and brushes and such but the painter's tape, the really good stuff for painting stripes. Usually again as I mentioned is blue and it usually will have something written on the box about that and a level and again if you can get a laser level we will get into that in later clips. "
