"In this series we are talking about square foot gardening; how to plant raised beds that are four foot by four foot that within them have one foot by one foot sections. Now the question is: how do I water my square foot garden. And the answer is: the same way you water your other gardens, whether it's a raised bed of any dimensions or it's a garden in the front entryway. An easy trick when you are watering your plants is to let them know when they need it. So at the first sign of any of the plants wilting just a bit, I soak it. I just soak it. I run the hose with a sprinkler. The best way is to mist it with a sprinkler or use a wand that has a sprinkler head on the top and you just make everything moist. We are not talking just a little bit moist; just drench it so that it just becomes mud. Then, ignore it. Sometimes one to two weeks later...it takes that much time to let it dry out again. Or if it's in the middle of the summer, when it is really, really hot, you water more frequently. The trick is to drench your garden so that it is really wet and then let it dry out to the point that the plants are almost wilting and then start all over again. It's as easy as that. Next, we'll talk about adding compost in the fall to your square foot garden."
